Advanced Technology for Better Dental Care
Modern dental technology has transformed the way dental care is planned and delivered, helping make dental appointments more efficient, comfortable, and comprehensive. Advanced diagnostic tools allow our team to view detailed information about your teeth, gums, and surrounding structures, supporting detailed assessments and personalized treatment planning. Digital systems can also simplify many traditional dental processes, reduce appointment time, and improve communication by helping patients better understand their oral health.
By incorporating modern technology into our practice, we can provide care with greater accuracy while creating a smoother and more convenient patient experience. From early detection and detailed imaging to treatment planning and ongoing monitoring, each technology is thoughtfully selected to support high-quality dental care. Our office is equipped with the following technologies to help us care for your smile.
Digital X-rays
Digital radiography combines advanced computer technology with electronic sensors to capture detailed images of the teeth, roots, jawbone, and surrounding structures. Unlike traditional film X-rays, digital images appear on a computer screen within seconds, allowing our dental team to review, enlarge, and enhance specific areas for a more detailed assessment. This technology supports efficient diagnosis, clear patient communication, and personalized treatment planning.
Efficient Imaging
Digital X-rays eliminate the need to develop traditional film, allowing images to be viewed almost immediately. This can streamline appointments and help our team assess your oral health more efficiently.
Secure Record Storage
Digital images can be securely stored as part of your dental record, making it easier to monitor changes over time and share information with other healthcare providers when necessary.
Detailed Images
Digital X-rays produce clear, high-resolution images that can be enlarged or adjusted to provide a closer view of specific areas. This helps our team identify concerns that may not be visible during a routine examination and explain the findings more clearly.
VELscope
The VELscope Vx Enhanced Oral Assessment System is a handheld screening device used to help our dental team examine the soft tissues of the mouth for areas that may require closer evaluation. It is used as a supplement to a traditional oral, head, and neck examination and does not require dyes, rinses, or invasive testing. The screening is quick, comfortable, and can often be completed during a routine hygiene appointment.
Enhanced Tissue Assessment
VELscope uses a bright blue light to stimulate natural fluorescence within the tissues of the mouth and tongue. Healthy tissue typically produces consistent patterns, while areas affected by certain changes may appear differently. This allows our team to identify tissue variations that may not be easily visible during a standard visual examination.
Quick and Non-Invasive Screening
A VELscope examination generally takes only a few minutes and does not involve radiation, dyes, or extended testing procedures. The device is simply positioned near the mouth while our dental team carefully examines the illuminated tissues.
Supporting Early Detection
VELscope does not provide a diagnosis on its own, but it can help our team identify suspicious areas that may require monitoring, further assessment, or referral. When used alongside a comprehensive oral examination, it supports a more thorough approach to detecting potential oral health concerns.
Cone Beam Computed Tomography (CBCT)
At Elements Dental, we use Cone Beam Computed Tomography when detailed three-dimensional imaging is clinically appropriate. CBCT technology captures precise images of the teeth, jawbone, nerve pathways, airway, and surrounding structures, helping our team gather important diagnostic information while carefully considering radiation exposure.
Detailed Three-Dimensional Imaging
Unlike traditional two-dimensional X-rays, CBCT provides a comprehensive view of oral and facial structures from multiple angles. These detailed images can help our team assess impacted teeth, hidden infections, bone anatomy, anatomical variations, jaw conditions, airway structure, and other areas that may be difficult to evaluate with standard imaging alone.
Precise Treatment Planning
CBCT imaging can support the planning of dental implants, tooth extractions, root canal treatment, orthodontics, TMJ care, and other complex procedures. The additional detail allows our team to evaluate important structures and develop treatment plans tailored to each patient’s individual anatomy and needs.
Thoughtful Use of Advanced Technology
CBCT is recommended only when the additional information may improve diagnosis or treatment planning. By using advanced imaging thoughtfully, we can provide a more complete understanding of your oral health and support precise, personalized care.
Intraoral Camera
An intraoral camera is a small digital imaging device used to capture clear, high-resolution photographs from inside the mouth. Its compact design allows our dental team to examine individual teeth, gums, restorations, and other areas that may be difficult to view with a dental mirror alone. Images appear on a screen almost immediately, supporting a more detailed examination and efficient appointment experience.
Detailed Views of Your Oral Health
The camera can capture close-up images of concerns such as worn or damaged teeth, cracks, plaque buildup, gum changes, and aging restorations. These detailed views help our team document your oral health, monitor changes over time, and identify areas that may require additional attention.
Clear Patient Communication
Because the images can be displayed directly on a screen, patients can see what our dental team sees during the examination. This makes it easier to explain findings, review treatment recommendations, and help you make informed decisions about your dental care.
Efficient Documentation and Monitoring
Intraoral images can be securely stored as part of your dental record and compared during future appointments. This allows our team to monitor changes, evaluate treatment results, and maintain accurate documentation of your oral health.
DEXIS CariVu
DEXIS CariVu is a compact digital imaging device that uses near-infrared transillumination technology to help our dental team examine teeth for cavities and cracks. Instead of using ionizing radiation, the device passes light through the tooth, allowing healthy enamel and areas of concern to appear differently on the resulting image. This can provide useful additional information when evaluating areas between teeth, chewing surfaces, and around existing restorations.
Radiation-Free Imaging
CariVu uses light rather than traditional X-rays to capture images of individual teeth. The process is non-invasive, comfortable, and may be especially helpful when additional imaging is needed without further radiation exposure.
Supporting Cavity Detection
The technology can help our team identify certain types of tooth decay, including cavities between teeth, decay on chewing surfaces, and recurrent decay near existing restorations. It may also help reveal cracks that are difficult to see during a visual examination.
Clear and Immediate Images
CariVu images appear on a computer screen within moments and can be stored as part of your dental record. This allows our team to review findings with you, compare images over time, and explain preventive or restorative recommendations more clearly.
iTero Digital Scanner
The iTero digital scanner captures highly detailed three-dimensional images of the teeth, gums, and bite without the need for traditional impression materials in many cases. A small handheld wand is moved comfortably around the mouth while the digital model appears on a screen in real time. This technology supports accurate treatment planning and allows patients to see a clear visual representation of their oral health.
Precise Digital Impressions
iTero scans can be used to create accurate digital models for crowns, bridges, veneers, dental implants, retainers, and other restorative treatments. The detailed images help our dental team evaluate tooth shape, spacing, alignment, and how the upper and lower teeth fit together.
Orthodontic Treatment Planning
The scanner is commonly used when planning braces and @Invisalign treatment. Three-dimensional images allow our team to assess alignment and bite concerns, monitor changes throughout treatment, and communicate the proposed plan more clearly.
Comfortable and Efficient Scanning
Digital scanning can reduce the need for trays filled with traditional impression material, creating a more comfortable experience for many patients. The images are available almost immediately, helping streamline communication, documentation, and the treatment-planning process.
ARES Home Sleep Test
The Apnea Risk Evaluation System (ARES) is a portable home sleep testing device used to collect important information about breathing and sleep patterns. Because concerns such as snoring, interrupted breathing, and oxygen changes occur while a patient is asleep, home testing can provide valuable information that cannot be gathered during a routine dental appointment. The process begins with a detailed questionnaire to help determine whether an ARES home sleep test may be appropriate.
Comfortable Testing at Home
Before testing, our team explains how to position and use the device correctly. The compact system includes a forehead sensor and small nasal components that monitor breathing while you sleep in your usual home environment. An alert may sound if a sensor becomes disconnected, helping support accurate data collection throughout the night.
Detailed Sleep Information
During the test, the ARES device records information such as blood oxygen levels, nasal airflow, pulse rate, heart rate, sleeping position, and snoring intensity. These measurements can help identify patterns associated with sleep-related breathing concerns, including possible obstructive sleep apnea.
Supporting Further Evaluation
After the test is completed, the recorded information is reviewed to determine whether further medical evaluation or additional testing may be recommended. ARES home sleep testing supports the assessment process, but a formal diagnosis and treatment plan should be completed in coordination with an appropriately qualified healthcare provider.
Dental Lasers
Dental lasers use focused light energy to support a range of soft-tissue and restorative procedures with precision and control. Depending on the treatment, laser technology may be used for periodontal care, soft-tissue contouring, bacterial reduction, endodontic support, whitening, and selected comfort-focused applications. Laser dentistry can help improve access to targeted areas while supporting efficient treatment and a more comfortable patient experience.
Diode Laser
A diode laser is commonly used for procedures involving the gums and other soft tissues. It may support periodontal therapy, soft-tissue reshaping, bacterial reduction, endodontic care, and laser-assisted teeth whitening. Its compact design and adjustable controls allow our dental team to work precisely while tailoring settings to the specific procedure and patient.
BIOLASE Epic X Laser
The BIOLASE Epic X is an advanced diode laser designed for multiple dental applications. It includes preset treatment settings and specialized handpieces that support soft-tissue procedures, periodontal care, whitening, and selected biostimulation applications. Disposable and adjustable tips help our team access different areas of the mouth while maintaining accuracy and infection-control standards.
Precision and Patient Comfort
Dental lasers may help reduce bleeding, swelling, and tissue disruption during certain procedures. They can also support accurate treatment and, in some cases, a smoother recovery. Suitability depends on the procedure and the patient’s individual needs, so our team will determine when laser technology may be appropriate.
OccluSense
OccluSense is a digital bite-analysis system used to measure how pressure is distributed when the upper and lower teeth come together. A thin, flexible sensor records both the timing and intensity of contact across the dental arch, helping our team identify areas that may be receiving excessive or uneven force. The information is transferred to a digital display, where it can be reviewed in detail and discussed with the patient.
Detailed Bite Analysis
Unlike traditional bite paper, which only marks where the teeth make contact, OccluSense provides a visual representation of how much pressure is applied and when each contact occurs. This allows our team to evaluate both static contact and the movement of the bite during chewing or jaw motion.
Supporting Treatment Planning
The system can help identify premature contacts, uneven pressure, and bite imbalances that may affect restorations, dental implants, orthodontic treatment, or overall comfort. This information supports more precise adjustments and patient-specific treatment planning.
Monitoring Changes Over Time
OccluSense recordings can be saved as part of the patient’s dental record and compared before and after treatment. This allows our team to document changes, evaluate treatment results, and monitor the bite during future appointments.
3Shape TRIOS Digital Scanner
The 3Shape TRIOS digital scanner captures highly detailed three-dimensional images of the teeth, gums, bite, and dental implant positions. A small handheld wand is moved comfortably around the mouth while the digital model appears on a screen in real time. This technology can reduce the need for traditional impression trays and materials in many cases, helping create a more comfortable and efficient experience.
Accurate Digital Impressions
TRIOS scans provide precise digital records that can be used when planning crowns, bridges, dental implants, orthodontic aligners, and other restorative treatments. The detailed images help our team evaluate tooth shape, spacing, alignment, and bite relationships with greater clarity.
Comfortable and Efficient Scanning
Because the scanner does not rely on bulky impression trays or traditional materials, it may be more comfortable for patients with a sensitive gag reflex. Digital scans can often be completed quickly, viewed immediately, and shared electronically with dental laboratories or other providers when needed.
Clear Treatment Communication
The scanner can also function as an intraoral camera, allowing patients to view detailed images of their teeth and gums on screen. This helps our team explain findings, review treatment recommendations, and involve patients more fully in planning their dental care.
